It is so nice to sit on the seats at the water’s edge and watch the boats and the people coming and going,  always something happening!

Paradise for all kinds of marine life, including the common Sea Gull.  This one was “fishing” right near us, and every now and then fluffed himself up and “screeched”  as though there were competition for the food he was finding, despite the fact that he was the only bird in sight!

Two Magpies came to see what we were eating and if there might be any crumbs for them.

As we were sitting enjoying the sunshine, the clouds came over, providing some amazing formations, but making the air quite chilly!

Lake Tyers–April 16 2017 - Easter Holidays

Fantastic weather has allowed many people to visit East Gippsland this holidays, and to enjoy all that our superb area offers.  There were many enjoying tranquil Lake Tyers, and the Pelicans were enjoying a free feed as fishermen cleaned their catch.

Lake Tyers is a great spot for Kayaking, providing protected waterways and great places to fish.

Boaters need to take care as parts of the lake are quite shallow.  This Pelican had been doing quite a little dance on his hidden island!

DSCF4060_dated Pelicans are always curious about what you are doing, especially if they think that you might be going to give them something to eat.  This crew were passing by, but when they saw me kneel down to take a photo, they turned and came back for a look

Trip to Dinner Plains Alpine area–March 31 2017

A lovely day for a road trip!  Not hot, not cold, lots of sunshine and clouds skimming across the sky creating light and shadow on the mountains and fields we drove passed.  We were surprised by the amount of traffic we encountered on the road, but no hassles as slower drivers pulled over to allow others past.

The trip up the mountains is pleasant, some scary parts of the road as you get higher, but as long as you’re careful, it’s alright. I love seeing all the houses, nestled amongst their trees scattered among the hills, some neat and tidy with precise gardens, others messy with farm equipment and machinery, but all looking well lived in and inviting. There is something earthy and reassuring about country homes.

The mountains are fabulous – their peaks adorned with gum trees silhouetted against a blue sky with white puffy clouds lazily drifting by.  In the valleys, streams can be seen glistening through the trees, with the occasional glimpse of a rock strewn river bed, as the Tambo winds it way along the side of the road.  Cattle and sheep can be seen in their wonderfully green and lush paddocks, some grazing, others lying down in the shade of the gums, or drinking from the streams.   The trees have not yet begun to turn on their brilliant color display for Autumn, with only a suggestion of color on a few, most are still varying shades of green.

Dinner Plains Alpine area is spectacular, even without any snow.  The photos do not capture the grandeur of the mountains and the depths of the valley’s.  I can only imagine how fantastic it must look blanketed in snow.  The road is winding and steep in parts, but in good condition for the most part, well marked for snow conditions, and quite safe for this time of year, although I would suggest you take it easy, some of those bends are quite sharp with a drop off that you don’t want to think about!!

However, it’s a great day trip within easy reach of Lakes Entrance. We left about 9 and were in Omeo around 11:00, went up to Dinner Plains and then returned for lunch at the Bakery at Omeo, which I can highly recommend.  Service was friendly, a nice smile and a “G’day”  as we came in the door, and our food and coffee served with a smile and a few words.  The whole atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the coffee was excellent.

Sea Mist in Lakes Entrance–March 21st 2017

Strange and eerie day here in Lakes today, as a heavy sea mist has rolled in from off the coast, blanketing much of the area.  We ventured out to take some photos, starting at Red Bluff Beach.

As you can see, the water was barely visible from the lookout, and you could see absolutely nothing off shore.

We went down onto the beach, and it was the strangest feeling, being unshrouded by mist and all alone on the beach.

Port of Lakes Entrance, March 17th 2017

Fabulous day for a walk around the Port!  Never tire of seeing it all, and never tire of taking photos of it all!

These HUGE jellyfish were all around the boats,  appearing eerily from the depths, floating along and then vanishing into the mire again!  Very graceful and quite pretty in their own way, and I'm told they are harmless, although they will leave you with a mild rash if you touch them.

The Fishing Fleet
Not all in Port, but enough for some good photos!

Paynesville - March 12 2017

Drive to Paynesville yesterday.  Fantastic day and some beautiful craft out on the water.

The Ferry going back and forth is always interesting to watch.

And the busy main street, provides a hub bub of activity

Always a great place to grab a coffee and sit and watch the world go by!

January 28 2017–Spider a hiding, flowers a blooming!

Another perfect day in East Gippsland today. A walk around my garden again, this time with a focus on spiders!

Can you spot him?  I don’t know what kind of a spider he is, but unless he moves, he looks just like a piece of bark, or a dried leaf.

Here’s another fellow hiding in a different place.  I have seen these holes all over the yard, but to my knowledge I have not actually seen the whole spider.  I have noticed his front legs sometimes at the top of the hole, but I have never seen one fully out of the hole.  If they are, as I’ve been told, Funnel Web spiders (not the deadly kind)  then they are very secretive spiders!

And a perfect water lily growing in the pond!
